I’ve visited Awbridge a few times a year, every year, for the last decade. Though it may be overshadowed by what’s on offer nearby in the New Forest and elsewhere in the Test Valley, I’m often struck by how much wildlife I see in Awbridge, in particular birds.
The site is a simple diary of the local wildlife – updated only as often as I visit, or perhaps when another local or visitor wants to contribute. The idea is to give specific information on where to see particular birds, for anyone else who enjoys watching them as much as I do.
Thanks for dropping by.
Charlie
Ref birds at Awbridge, a nightingale could be heard singing for the first time in the millennium woodland next to Awbridge village hall from april 28th through may till early june during which time garden warbler, chiffchaff, willow warbler, blackcap, whitethroat and lesser whitethroat were all abundant.
2 lapwing also nested but all 14 young perished due to careless farming activity and hay making.
Other regular visitors through the winter included raven, with occassional sighting of the red kite, peregrine and a merlin. Barn owl breeding currently.
Many thanks for this Bryan, wonderful records.
I’ve posted your comment as a post in its own right here.
Does a robin’s nest in a cardboard box in the garden toolshed count as birds in Awbridge?!
